Run it after you have installed the Work Compass pack, before you try to use it for real work. You can also rerun it when a setup component is missing or after a material change to your workspace or calendar configuration.
I want to set up Work Compass so it is ready for real work
When Work Compass is new or its configuration is incomplete, use this workflow to connect the right calendar and inbox, register your workspaces, and establish planning preferences.
Prepare the system before the first plan.
When Work Compass is new or its configuration is incomplete, use this workflow to connect the right calendar and inbox, register your workspaces, and establish planning preferences. You’re done when the readiness check confirms that weekly planning can run.

Start with the Work Compass pack installed in your workspace. Then have access to the workspace folder, a connected calendar, and—when inbox capability is enabled—a connected inbox. You’ll also need the information used to describe active workspaces, working hours, calendar preferences, inbox behavior, and planning preferences. If an existing component passes validation, setup skips it. If a change would overwrite user data, setup stops for explicit approval.
From incomplete configuration to verified readiness.
Compass Setup assesses what already exists, asks only for missing information, proposes changes for approval, and verifies the resulting system. Existing valid files are preserved. Setup does not silently overwrite user data or declare success before the readiness check.
The setup checks, interviews, and rules working together.
Work Compass checks the current state of your workspace and uses your calendar, planning preferences, and operating rules to identify what is missing. Templates provide the shapes for the workspace registry, configuration, and To-Do List. The result is a configured Work Compass that is ready to be checked before weekly planning.
Move from inspection to a passing readiness check.
- 01
Check the current setup and identify which components are missing or invalid.
- 02
Register the active workspaces selected from the folders in your work folder.
- 03
Run the calendar and planning interview: confirm the calendars Work Compass should use, validate the primary calendar, capture working hours and recurring constraints, choose Focus Work preferences, and set the weekly planning mode and planning window.
- 04
If inbox capability is enabled, confirm the connected inbox, its business identity, and its review behavior, then configure it when the existing setup is missing or incomplete.
- 05
Show the proposed configuration changes and wait for your approval before saving them.
- 06
Create or migrate the shared To-Do List when it is missing or incomplete, without overwriting existing items.
- 07
Run the readiness check across the workspace, calendar, inbox, rules, runtime state, core workflows, and the live calendar connection.
What setup changes and where it goes.
| Output | What happens | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace registry | Records the active workspaces Work Compass should plan around. | Shared Work OS workspace registry |
| Calendar and planning settings | Saves the approved calendars, working boundaries, planning preferences, and Focus Work choices. | Work Compass configuration |
| Inbox settings | When inbox capability is enabled, saves the connected inbox and its review behavior. | Work Compass inbox configuration |
| Rules and readiness | Records the operating rules and the evidence that the setup is ready to run. | Work Compass rules and readiness state |
| To-Do List | Creates or migrates the shared queue without overwriting existing items. | Shared Work OS To-Do List |
You review and approve proposed configuration changes before they are saved. Existing user data remains protected.
Verify the setup or resume at the failed component.
Setup succeeds only when the readiness check passes. If a connector is unavailable, a required file is invalid, or approval is withheld, the workflow reports the specific condition and leaves the affected component unchanged. Rerun setup after correcting it.
